🇬🇭
destination

Accra, Ghana

the squad-trip nobody else planned correctly. food, history, and a music scene that rewires your taste.

vibe
food, music, history, modern african city
best time
November–March (dry season). December for the diaspora returnees and detty december energy.
ideal length
5–7 days for accra alone; 8–10 if you add cape coast or the volta region.
scout's take

accra is the trip you don't pitch right because most blogs don't get it. the city moves on its own time, the food is the reason you'll come back, and the music is the reason you'll start telling people you're going to ghana for new years. december is electric. the diaspora returns, the parties scale up, the city plays for an audience. but january through march is calmer and might serve a more curious squad better. either way: budget more days than you think. accra is the city; cape coast and the volta region are the trips that turn it into a story.

things to do

jamestown wander

the oldest neighborhood. fishing harbor, lighthouse, untold layers of history. take a guided walk; the story is the point.

cape coast day trip

3 hours west. cape coast and elmina castles are the part of the trip nobody on the squad will forget. plan a full day, leave early.

osu food crawl

oxford street and the streets that branch off it. start with grilled tilapia and banku at a chop bar, end at +233 jazz bar.

kwame nkrumah memorial park

the founding father's mausoleum + museum. small, focused, worth two hours. picture-friendly grounds.

labadi beach + sunday at the resort

sundays at labadi pleasure beach are a scene. live music, drummers, food. less polish than an instagram beach, more energy than one.

gallery 1957 + the design scene

ghana's contemporary art scene is having a moment. gallery 1957 (kempinski) is the entry point; ask the squad to flag any current shows in cantonments.

where to stay

osu

where you eat and go out. central, walkable, food at every hour. some stretches are loud; book a stay one block off oxford street.

cantonments

embassies, polished restaurants, design hotels. quieter, more residential, easy bolt to everything.

east legon

newer, polished, expat-leaning. great if the squad wants modern apartments and gym access. uber to osu for nights out.

labone

middle ground between cantonments and osu. design-y, walkable, cafés. underrated.

flight hint

kotoka international (ACC) is 30 min from osu without traffic, an hour with. delta flies direct from jfk; british airways via lhr; klm via ams. december flights spike — book early.

plan accra with the squad.
